GoChinese is an award-winning, web-based language learning platform that supports Mandarin Chinese learning by English-based and native Chinese learners.  GoChinese delivers enriched learning materials and online assessment – auto-generating spoken voice, definition and phonetic support to any text displayed on the platform.

The challenge with Chinese is that it is a non-phonetic language that does not explicitly indicate where a word begins and ends in written form.  As an extension of this, looking up words in the dictionary can be cumbersome.  By double clicking, highlighting or pointing the cursor on any words, users can immediately hear the spoken language as well as view definitions and phonetics, among its many features.  GoChinese generates spoken voice at the quality of news broadcasters and is able to auto-extract words and display definitions from our comprehensive, 250,000-word Chinese-English dictionary.

Dianpin was developed by a team of distinguished linguists and programming specialists, focused on the importance of using a natural, phonetic approach when processing Chinese text. Dianpin uniquely supports Hanyu Pinyin input with significantly greater precision, providing users with increased control when working with Chinese text. Dianpin supports inputting traditional Chinese into Microsoft Office, operating Windows 9x/Me and XP.

Methodology.
The Dianpin approach combines word-based Pinyin with tone specific syllables, effectively reducing input imprecision created by the many Pinyin homophones. Users input with standard Hanyu Pinyin and in the instances of homophone words, Dianpin – specialized spellings based on Pinyin – can be used.
